OVERVIEW OF CERTIFICATION:
ENDORSEMENT LEVELS 1-4

Certification consists of four levels.  A daily schedule of an endorsement level will consist of sessions on topics in Rolland pedagogy from his publication The Teaching of Action in String Playing, as well as the specific application of his actions to private studio teaching, group and orchestral instruction, and all levels of performance.  After each level is completed, an Endorsement is received for that level.  One full in-person Paul Rolland String Pedagogy workshop must be attended during the Certification process.  At least a three month interval between levels needs to occur in order for the candidate to apply the pedagogy to their teaching and playing.  Each level of the Certification process must be completed in order and within the span of 9 years.  Upon completion of the fourth level, full Certification is received from the Paul Rolland String Pedagogy Society.

LEVEL 2

Small group instruction at a second PRSPS endorsed full in-person or online course during which candidates will meet daily with a Paul Rolland Mentor.  A journal submission and final teaching evaluation will be required.

Repertoire will be focused on New Tunes for Strings, Bks. 1 & 2 by Stanley Fletcher.

LEVEL 1

A full Paul Rolland String Pedagogy Society endorsed in-person or online workshop.  Upon completion, Level 1 Endorsement is granted by the Paul Rolland String Pedagogy Society.

LEVEL 3

Small group instruction at a third PRSPS endorsed full in-person or online course during which candidates will meet daily with a Paul Rolland Mentor.  A journal submission and final teaching evaluation will be required.

Familiarity with both upper and lower string instruments is encouraged.

Repertoire will be focused on literature you use in your teaching.

LEVEL 4

Small group instruction at a fourth PRSPS endorsed course during which candidates will meet with a Paul Rolland Mentor.  A journal submission and final teaching and playing evaluations will be required.

Emphasis will be on identifying movement problems in string players and making appropriate corrections, as well as the candidate’s individual playing and advanced repertoire used in teaching. Two 30 minute private lessons will be given by the mentor to each candidate.

Upon successful completion of Level 4, the candidate is granted Certification by the Paul Rolland String Pedagogy Society and the candidate’s name is added to a Certified Teacher List.
