LEVEL 1

  • WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PAUL ROLLAND STRING PEDAGOGY WORKSHOP AND LEVEL 1 ENDORSEMENT IN PAUL ROLLAND STRING PEDAGOGY? 

After attending a full Paul Rolland String Pedagogy Workshop of at least 17-20 hours (approved by the Paul Rolland String Pedagogy Society), an attendee is given Level 1 Endorsement by the Paul Rolland String Pedagogy Society.  

  • WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF LEVEL 1?

Level 1 Endorsement is the first in a 4-Level training sequence of Paul Rolland String Pedagogy.  In Level 1 Endorsement, attendees hear lectures on all of the chapters in The Teaching of Action in String Playing and they see all of the films associated with those chapters.  After completion of Level 1 Endorsement by attending a full workshop, you receive a Level 1 Endorsement.  After Level 1 Endorsement, you may continue Level 2 Endorsement.  It is recommended to have at least 3  months in between each Level for the application of Paul Rolland String Pedagogy in your teaching and/or playing.

  • HOW OFTEN IS LEVEL 1 ENDORSEMENT AVAILABLE?

  • MAY I ATTEND A PAUL ROLLAND PEDAGOGY WORKSHOP MULTIPLE TIMES?

Absolutely. Participants are known to come back many times to absorb new information and refresh their inspiration for Paul Rolland String Pedagogy.  Those who want to continue with more in-depth training are encouraged to register for other Endorsement events.

  • WHO ARE THE PRESENTERS AT A FULL WORKSHOP?

The presenters are former students of Paul Rolland and presenters who have been trained by them.  To see bios of past presenters for workshops, click here.

  • MUST I PASS A TEST AT THE END OF A PAUL ROLLAND STRING PEDAGOGY WORKSHOP TO BE GRANTED A LEVEL 1 ENDORSEMENT?

No.  There is no final evaluation for Level 1 Endorsement. 

  • WHAT MATERIALS ARE RECOMMENDED TO HAVE WHEN I ATTEND LEVEL 1 ENDORSEMENT?

  1. The Teaching of Action in String Playing (book) by Paul Rolland with Marla Mutschler

  2. The Teaching of Action in String Playing (films) by Paul Rolland, available on Vimeo for purchase or rental.           The films are also available on DVD by emailing peterrolland@cox.net

  3. New Tunes for Strings, Book 1 and New Tunes for Strings, Book 2 by Stanley Fletcher with design by Paul Rolland, are used during the workshop

  4. Your instrument

  5. A good internet connection and video capabilities (if attending the workshop online)  

  • WHAT EQUIPMENT IS SUGGESTED FOR LEVEL 1 ENDORSEMENT?

In the case of online courses in Paul Rolland String Pedagogy, a desktop or laptop and a reliable internet connection are needed for the broadcasts and for note-taking.  Headphones or speakers are suggested for optimal listening.  For in-person workshops, something on which to take notes is suggested.  For both the online and in-person versions, a bowed string instrument of your choice is needed. 

  • WILL I RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF LEVEL 1 ENDORSEMENT?

Yes, upon completion of the Paul Rolland String Pedagogy Workshop, you will receive a digital Certificate of Level 1 Endorsement.
