FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
MENTOR TRAINING

CAN I BE A MENTOR IN ROLLAND PEDAGOGY WITHOUT TAKING THE MENTOR TRAINING COURSE?

No. Mentors in Paul Rolland String Pedagogy need to know and understand Rolland pedagogy.  They also need to know the structure of the certification program, instructional strategies in addition to those explained in The Teaching of Action in String Playing, and how to take individual and small groups of teachers effectively through the pedagogy. These and other topics are covered in the Mentor Training course.

DO I NEED TO HAVE ROLLAND CERTIFICATION LEVELS 1-4 BEFORE TAKING THE MENTOR TRAINING COURSE?

Yes, you need either to have 4 levels of Rolland Certification prior to enrolling in the Mentor Training course, or special permission from the Paul Rolland String Pedagogy Society.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO COMPLETE CERTIFICATION LEVELS 1-4 IN ORDER TO BEGIN MENTOR TRAINING?

The certification process typically takes 4 years. The Rolland String Pedagogy Society is currently working on additional offerings that may make it possible to take more than one level within each calendar year.

HOW OFTEN IS MENTOR TRAINING OFFERED?

The Rolland String Pedagogy Society will offer Mentor Training as often as a group of interested and qualified people is formed. 2-3 people per group is recommended. Session dates will be scheduled based on participant availability.

IS MENTOR TRAINING OFFERED ONLINE?

Yes.

DO I NEED MENTOR TRAINING IN ORDER TO TAKE THE PRESENTER TRAINING COURSE?

No. While there is similarity between the Mentor and Presenter Training, each course is a stand-alone course. Presenter Training mainly focuses on your ability to be an effective speaker and to model Paul Rolland String Pedagogy principles effectively to large groups. Mentor Training focuses more on your instruction, as well as your effectiveness to guide individuals and small groups of teachers through the knowledge and skills required for an understanding of Rolland pedagogy.
