Gláucia Borges

Gláucia Borges is an instructor at the State University of Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where she teaches violin, chamber music, and courses in violin pedagogy.
As a performer, she has played with the Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra and the Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra. She currently performs with the Sesiminas Orchestra, where she has been a member since 1995.
She earned her Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degrees from the University of Iowa under the guidance of Professor Leopold LaFosse. In addition to her academic studies, she attended masterclasses with Professors John Kendall and William Starr, and studied with Doris Preucil. She also taught at The Preucil School of Music in Iowa City, Iowa.
She was first introduced to the Rolland pedagogy in 1989 during her graduate studies at the University of Iowa. She is a certified Rolland teacher, having completed all four levels of certification as well as the Presenter level.
Gláucia Borges has been conducting extensive research on the use of Brazilian folk songs in string teaching for beginners and is currently working on the publication of a series of method books titled Sons do Folclore, for violin, viola, cello, and double bass. The Violin Book, Vol. 1 was published in December 2024.
